Kurdish Language Department was opened in Rania in 2009 as a part of Koya University and it received the first group of students that year. After Raparin University was founded in 2010, this department was shifted to the Faculty of Basic Education at the University of Raparin. In 2012–2013, the first group of students graduated from the department. The graduates are awarded a Bachelor’s degree in education and can work as teachers in private and public basic schools.
Currently, the department has a total of 12 faculty members, 8 of which are linguistics majors and the other three are literature majors.
The Department strives to develop the Kurdish language and literature as a national duty, and produce high quality Kurdish language teachers to both local and international basic schools.
The department aims to educate and prepare pre-service teachers to become successful teachers, and provide them with new ways and methods of teaching and relevant psychological resources to enhance education, teaching and long-term learning.
