The Department of Social Science opened its doors for students in the academic year 2016-2017. It is part of the College of Basic Education and it was opened to serve teachers from the Ministry of Education, and it accepts students as parallel system. In its first year, the Department admitted 80 students. Graduates will be granted a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science.

Mission
The Department of Social Science strives to prepare an active generation who are equipped with necessary scientific skills. For this end, students are provided with a very carefully designed coursework and are given the opportunity to enhance and further their knowledge in the fields of history, geography, social education and psychology education.

Vision
The Department of Social Science aims to making a new generation with modern knowledge in science. Students are taught with modern methods of teaching that are scientific, educational and psychological. Additionally, The Department of Social Science hopes to work towards meeting the needs of our Kurdish community through making a generation of graduates who are equipped with modern means of education and sufficient scientific skills, enabling them to work as productive individuals in a developing region.

Objectives
1. Preparing experts in the field of social sciences in order to meet the demands of Basic Schools.
2. Contributing to the development of the Kurdish society in collaboration with other departments in the University of Raparin.
3. Addressing the challenges of the Kurdish society by empowering and developing the skills of creative individuals. This is done by employing modern methods of the application of knowledge and human capacity development.
4. Expanding the existing skills of our students in the fields of history, geography, education and psychology.
