Students study for 4 years on a yearly grading base. Upon successful completion, students are granted a B.Sc. from the Department of General Science/ Evening, Faculty of General Education. After their degrees are modified by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Graduates can go back to their previous jobs as General Science Teachers or work in Basic Schools.
Experimental Scientific Department together with the Humanities can contribute to further the development of education with new and up-to-date science. This department hopes to equip the new generation with necessary scientific skills. It is worth noting that University of Raparin is among the very few schools in Kurdistan that offer this degree.
Our vision is to work with the other departments in the University of Raparin to meet the demands of our community and to empower the students with skills in general science and its components.
1. Making experts in the field of general science, something that Basic Schools so desperately need. This is so because there are not enough teachers in Kurdistan who have multiple teachables. Graduates from Biology, for instance, cannot teach geology, physics or chemistry. However, a graduate from the Department of General Science will have the right skills and sufficient knowledge to successfully teach all those school subjects.
2. Graduates from the science departments are not prepared to teach because there is not enough emphasis on teaching methodology and psychology in their curricula. In our department, however, all relevant subfields of science such as biology, physics, chemistry and geology are given ample significance. Students are additionally taught methods of teaching and psychology, enabling them to work with young learners in Basic Schools.
