The Kurdish Language Department in Basic Education opened in 2012-2013 for teachers of the Ministry of Education. As the first step, it accepted thirty students. Department graduates will hold Bachelor’s degree in Kurdish Language after four years of studying. Admission is exclusive to teachers of the Ministry of Education.

Mission
The Department of Kurdish Language plays an important role in the development of individuals. It is a means of educating and developing Kurdish language and literature as a national duty and introducing its students with several different kinds of subjects such as science, linguistics, literature and psychology.

Vision
As a university need for the purpose of educating and preparing successful teachers, and providing them with new ways and methods of teaching and relevant psychological resources which consequently serve the field of education, teaching and enhancing long-term learning.

Objectives
1- Preparing students for the purpose of employing them as teachers in the field of education.
2- Building up trained teachers who are able to practice the profession, taking into account knowledge as a basis of the new education system.
3- Effective monitoring and constant follow-up of the basic grades of the educational programs to be compatible with the department's curriculum.
4- Making connection with similar departments and colleges in other universities across Kurdistan aiming at unifying teaching programs and improving the scientific relations.
5- Finally, it is our goal to pay attention to developing the Kurdish language and literature and considering the reasons behind its lack of progress through conducting academic study and holding scientific conferences, workshops, forums and so forth.
