University of Raparin Heads Delegation to USA Universities
In a joint delegation with Rayal Center for Cultural and Educational Exchanges, on 14/09/2012 University of Raparin headed a delegation to Duluth City, the city sister of Rania in Minnesota USA. Rania and Duluth have previously exchanged two other delegations. The aim of this relation is to build citizen-to-citizen diplomatic relations and to extend it to cover academic and scientific ties between universities from both sides.
On behalf of University of Raparin, the delegation included university president prof. Dr. Mohammed A. Abdulla, University Vice-president for Scientific Affairs Dr. Bahzad W. Hama and Director of Public Relations Paiman R. Ahmad. The delegation visited some universities in Minnesota and was warmly received by Dr. Sandi Christal, International Studies Institute Manager. With her, they discussed the situation in University of Raparin in detail.
In their visit to the presidency of Minnesota University, the delegation was welcomed by UMD University’s vice president for Academic Affairs and a meeting was held with the attendance of deans of colleges such as: Medicine, Science, Engineering, Human Sciences, Economy and Administration. After discussing the academic situation in both universities, both sides showed their interest of collaboration.
They also met with Dr. Lee Nisei, Foreign Study Manager at UMD University. She was pleased to build ties of relation between the two universities. She further valued Raparin University efforts to improve the educational environment in Kurdistan Region and said it is the only university in the Middle East they work with. She also shed light on the possibility of collaboration in terms of exchanging top students and university staff exchange, particularly in departments that are similar in both universities.
On Sept 18th, Raparin University representatives met with Dr.Lendley C. Black, UMD University President. He declared their readiness to help University of Raparin, and at request of Raparin University President, they signed a memorandum of understanding. At request of UMD University staff and students, president of University of Raparin delivered a seminar on Kurdish people and history and how the higher education is going in Kurdistan Region.
With the hope of achieving academic interests-particularly in the field of Nursing- the delegation visited Saint Asholastica’s College and met with the college manger and the head of the department to discuss ways of collaboration between the two universities.
As planned by University of Raparin, and supervised by Rayal Center, the delegation is supposed to visit other universities and academic institutes in USA.
